What makes Dauin such a compelling destination for underwater photographers, and how can a live shootout competition help you become a sharper, more decisive shooter?
Join The Underwater Club founder Nicolas Remy for a photographic trip report from Dauin, in the Philippines. Drawing on a month spent exploring the area and his experience judging the dive Dive Dauin 2026 competition, Nicolas will share the destination through the eyes of an underwater photographer: its subjects, the variety of diving on offer, and some of the images that can be made there.
He will also take you behind the scenes of the Dive Dauin live shootout. Competitors photograph around Dauin over three days, then submit one image in each of five categories. Nicolas will explain how the event works, why entering an in-person shootout can be such a valuable experience, and the practical mindset that helps when you have limited time to find, compose and deliver your best images.
Finally, Nicolas will comment selected winning images from the 2026 competition, offering his perspective on the subjects, photographic choices and ideas they reveal.

Meet your speaker
Nicolas Remy is a French-Australian freelance underwater photographer based in Sydney, Australia. He is the founder and lead photography instructor of The Underwater Club, and an ambassador for Mares and Nauticam.
A seasoned photojournalist, Nicolas has written dozens of articles for publications including DivePhotoGuide, Scuba Diver Magazine, Ocean Geographic, Plongez! and AsianDiver, covering marine life, dive travel and photographic techniques.
His images have earned more than 40 international awards. Nicolas has served as a judge for various photography competitions and has chaired the jury of the DPG Masters since 2024.
