Planning your next underwater photography trip? Let fellow shooters guide you.

There’s no substitute for hearing first-hand from someone who’s been there, dived that—especially when they share your passion for underwater photography, and care for the same things when it comes to dive travel.

In this special webinar, three members of The Underwater Club took the stage to share their recent dive trips, with each talk crafted to help you decide whether that destination is right for you. These aren’t just travel diaries—they’re photography-focused reports covering underwater highlights, ideal subjects and lenses, visibility conditions, topside logistics, and even accommodation and travel tips.

Watch the recording to see their favourite images, learn what worked (and what didn’t), and hear honest reflections on what it was like to photograph there. Whether you’re looking to plan your next photo adventure or simply want to be inspired by new locations, these reports are packed with insights that only another underwater photographer would think to include.

The Underwater Club is thrilled to feature three of its members covering the following destinations:

Anilao (Philippines) in February 2025

Meet your speaker

Verona Chadwick has been diving for over 45 years and done thousands of dives in that time. She lives in Lismore (NSW, Australia) and her local dive site is Julian Rocks in Byron Bay, but she has dived in many places around Australia. Her diving experience also includes cave diving in Mt Gambier South Australia, overseas dive trips to the Philippines, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Truk Lagoon, Fiji, Galapagos and Antarctica.

Verona started her underwater photography obsession with a basic GoPro 3 then progressed to a GoPro 9 but at the same time the Olympus TG6. A few years ago, she swapped to the Olympus EM10 Mark IV mirrorless camera and has been slowly learning how to master it. Her favourite critters are the tiny macro-ones because the camera can see the minute details better than the eye.

About Verona's trip in Anilao

In February 2025, Verona travelled to Anilao (Philippines), where she stayed in Aiyanar resort and dove with well-known underwater photographer & guide Dennis Corpuz. Listen to Verona’s talk to hear about her experience shooting the Batangas’ renowned underwater macro wildlife by day, night, and during blackwater dives. She will also cover the advantages of hiring a highly skilled dive guide, and the equipment she used, and discuss some of her favourite images of the trip

Antarctica in January 2025

Meet your speaker

Dr Bill Gladstone is a marine biologist, Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology Sydney, and an International Fellow of the Explorers Club. After completing his PhD (a study of fish behavioural ecology), Bill worked for government and international marine conservation organisations in Australia, the ‘Coral Triangle’ (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines), and the Red Sea, where he used his expertise in the ecology of fishes and coral reefs for conservation planning and environmental management. Bill has spent extended periods of time at sea and worked in remote and isolated locations as a member and leader of field teams. As a university academic, Bill studied the conservation biology of fishes and sharks and the social aspects of marine conservation. Bill dives regularly around Sydney and loves to use his underwater photography to document the lives of marine animals.

About Bill's trip in Antarctica

In January 2025, Bill Gladstone embarked on a 28-day expedition, sailing to Antarctica on a small yacht. During this trip he captured both underwater and topside imagery of the unique fauna that inhabits these frozen latitudes, including leopard seals, penguins and humpback whales! Listen to Bill’s talk to hear about this unique experience, the logistics involved, the photographic challenges and opportunities, and tips to make the most of a trip like this!

Tulamben (Bali) across several trips

Meet your speaker

Maryline is a French-born underwater photographer based in Singapore. Over the past three decades, she has lived in eight countries and explored more than 100, embracing a borderless lifestyle that mirrors the way she photographs underwater: always seeking wonder in the unexpected and hidden corners of the ocean.

She is especially drawn to the ocean’s overlooked side: tiny, strange, and rare critters camouflaged in black sand volcanic seabeds and muck diving waters. For her, photography isn’t just about capturing reality; it’s about highlighting the magic in the details and transforming the underwater world into a canvas of colour, shape and emotion.

Maryline believes that, by revealing the hidden beauty of the ocean’s less glamorous corners, we can inspire greater awareness, appreciation, respect… and action to protect them. Because we only protect what we know—what we truly see, and love. 😉

To see more of Maryline’s work, follow her on Instagram and visit her website.

About Maryline's travels to Tulamben

Maryline has explored some of Southeast Asia’s top muck diving destinations—including Lembeh, Anilao, Dauin, and Tulamben—and muck diving remains her favourite style of underwater photography. She’s returned to Tulamben several times over the years, and in this talk, she’ll highlight what makes it stand out as a muck diving destination. Expect practical tips on making the most of your trip, insights into different resorts she’s stayed at, and of course, a photographer’s take on what to shoot and how.
