Malapascua is a small island (3km long, about 400m wide) situated off the northern tip of Cebu island.

    Getting there

You fly to Cebu international airport, and hop on a roughly 3 hours long drive to reach the town of Maya Port, from where you’ll catch a boat towards Malapascua.

Our dive center arranged a private car transfer for us, as well as a private boat instead of the public ferry, but you can probably save a bit of money by arranging all by yourself.

The ferry bit is a little tricky: you can’t cross later than 5pm, so if your car can’t make it on time to the ferry, you’re ending up having to wait till the following day.

Most people landing in the afternoon will stay in a hotel in Cebu, and the day after do the car + ferry ride in one go.

Because we wanted to get to Malapascua asap, we chose to stay in a Maya Port accomodation, and then we went to the ferry at 07am the day after.

    Our Night in Maya Port

We found a good-looking accomodation on booking.com, only 300m away from the wharf… or so we thought:

    https://www.booking.com/hotel/ph/joyful-hut-with-netflix-and-perfect-sunrise-view.en-gb.html

The hut was more like a self-contained AirBnB than a hotel, and although everything looks like the booking.com photos, we realised they carefully made sure not to photograph the surroundings, as the property was located in between slums, and stood out a fair bit!
