What a vibrant and eye-catching photo! The high contrast and sunrays are good ingredients for a competition image. I also like how the backlight makes the brown kelp and green algae glow from within.
Couple of things that could make it stronger:
1/ the snell window is a bit over exposed, we would enjoy a richer colour contrast if it was blue/aqua rather than near white. Plus this would make the sunbeams more defined. See your histogram, perhaps your raw file holds enough data to make it achievable in post.
2/ It feels like you pushed the saturation or vibrance or dehaze (which also saturates colours) perhaps a little strongly. I personally don’t mind, but some judges will frown at images that are very saturated.
All in one, it’s a stunning jetty photo, and if piers/jetty was the competition’s theme, I think it would be a good contender.
If this was a more generic category, it would struggle by being “just a jetty shot” against some marine-life centred images.
