Hey Verona! I’ll indeed be diving at least a bit around Mabul as part of a Sipadan trip next month. I’ve been there once before in 2017, and there is certainly some potential, particularly the sites Paradise 1/Paradise 2 ^_^ Looking through my trip album, I see nudibranchs, flamboyant cuttlefish, ghost pipefish, and leaf scorpionfish from my Mabul dives.
However, I wouldn’t say it’s exceptionally photographer-friendly in the way that dedicated muck diving destinations are, but it can certainly be dived that way with some prior arrangements made I’d imagine. I was lucky to have last visited during a lull period and had my own dive guide around Mabul off Seaventures and that was fine.
