Wow, super impressed with the beautiful pics posted so far, I especially love @jocudmore ’s mexichromis, the background complements this nudi perfectly and makes it shine like a little diva!
I probably won’t have the chance to take the camera out to dive this month, so I did some experiments at home with a CD inspired by Ipah’s class… I have to say I found it really hard to get any decent shots and control the colors and reflections and I am not impressed with my results, it looks too much like a 80’s disco ;). I don’t think I will take this underwater; for once I think for now I already have my hands full enough managing the camera (and the new snoot) by itself and also for the fear of losing my props underwater – I do have a certain track record of losing bolt snaps and pointer sticks 😬
Here are my pics: using 2 torches, 1 to shine at the CD and the other to light the little shell.
I got the best results with ISO200, f1/250 and f8.
Although technically timed out for the challenge, I am adding a few more pics from that Tulamben trip with best buddy @paula end of last month. I did experiment a bit with natural backgrounds shooting a little blenny and I think I prefer these more natural looking results. I wanted to render the already beautifully soft background a bit more dreamy and blurred and tried this with different apertures and shutter speeds.
1) ISO 200, f14, 1/50s – the brightest pic with most of the background details
2) ISO 200, f8, 1/100s – the blurred greenish blue background, I think my favorite
3)ISO 200, f14, 1/125s – more moody and dark with a high contrast to the blenny
Admittedly I tried quite a lot of different combis and it did result in a much higher than usual number of unusable (too bright, too blurred,…) pictures. So would only try to use it again if the subject stays at the same spot, otherwise it is a bit risky..
