Welcome Mathieu and thank you for sharing your work with us!
First of all — the flooding story nearly gave me a heart attack. Glad to hear you managed to save both the camera and the lens. That’s the kind of photography drama I prefer to read about rather than experience myself 😄
I’m also very curious to see a photo of your gadget. I actually have a shiny sequined handbag that I once optimistically took diving as a background prop, only to discover that its main photographic feature was creatively floating away from me.
I really like the artificial nudi image. The colours, lighting and the background all come together beautifully. It’s a great example of how much fun experimentation can be.
With the gorgonian shot, I can clearly see the technique and the idea behind it, and I think you’ve got all the ingredients there. In my personal view, though, the balance feels a little off. My eye is drawn very strongly to the bright coral structure, while the beautiful bokeh in the background becomes more of a supporting element than a feature in its own right. I found myself wanting either a little less emphasis on the coral or a little more visual impact from the background lights to help them play together more evenly.
That said, I love seeing people experiment and push ideas in new directions, and for a first forum post you’ve certainly given us plenty to talk about. Looking forward to seeing more of your work 😊
