Really appreciate your feedback Elena – this particular fish is there every dive so varying technique is easy . It has helped me improve my snoot work out of sight!! I have a lot of photos with black backgrounds!

Once I adopted Nico’s teachings from the snoot masterclass it helped me immensely – particularly placing the snoot at 45 degrees right above the centreline of the port and then locking it down and using in and out movement to get on the subject. My hit rate of actually having light on or “near” the subject has really increased, although in brighter conditions the aiming light can be very difficult to see – just means diving earlier or later. Adopting that one technique has seen me clip off the OS1 and have it with me on all my macro dives just in case the right subject pops up.

I can actually have a very versatile set up by using the D850, one or two of the HF1 strobes – by using bayonet mount I easily can swap our between the MFO1 lens and EMWL and just as easily add the snoot if wanted. I keep the EMWL clipped off in an old “spare air” pouch (cannot believe I had 4 of them given to me – all useless).

Unfortunately my subject choice for the next challenge disappeared on Sunday – I had plenty of variations on the theme with a cuttlefish in April and was hoping to do the same !! The little false cleaner fish in the bottle could end up being a star again after all.
