Hi Richard, that sounds like it was a wonderful experience, always great to have some interaction with our underwater critters, even those deadly ones that aren’t so scarry as people think, like all our underwater critters they need to be treated with respect.
Your shots are lovely, the black sand really eats up that light. I had a similar experience in Lembah last year and will be very keen on some of the feedback you get here as well, as we are heading back to Dive into Lembah again this June.
I think some spot lighting for some of your shots could high light just the blue ring octopus. example where he is looking out of the bottle perhaps, the free swimming shots look good to me, as the black sand can be a blessing as much as a curse. <strong style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Darkening the background in post — might be useful when the sand is unevenly lit or has distracting specks. This may help keep the focus on the animal without making the image look unnatural. A slightly underexposed background with a well‑lit subject can look very clean and intentional. Easy to say that now right, harder at the time trying to get that image and hoping it doesn’t just take off and disappear, as they will very quickly blend in with their surroundings. Looking forward to everyone’s in put. Thanks for sharing
