    Two possible theories I can think of.

    1 The external drive containing your LR catalog (if I understood correctly) could be having problems. Is it particularly old? And/or nearly full? If either are true it could be worth replacing.

    2 LR + Tahoe bug. Make sure both are fully up-to-date. Could be worth submitting a support request to Adobe.

    If you try to import in smaller batches, does that help? Does it always hang consistently after importing the same number of photos?
