That is a bummer, the tripod should sort out camera/lens vibrations, but to be sure, what sort of shutter speed are you using?

If it is indeed an AF issue, try and establish if there is a pattern: if the focus is consistently behind the subject (back focus) or consistently in front of it (front focus).

I don’t have experience with that lens, but this would be good troubleshooting to do, prior to going to a Sony retailer for help.
