In most shooting situations, you will not be able to tell the difference between an acrylic and glass dome port.
If I have to choose between the perfect dome size in acrylic and a glass dome that is oversized, i’ll get the acrylic.
However, here are 2 important considerations:
-When you shoot into the sunball, you sometimes see reflections (e.g. reflections of your lens) which makes the photo unusable. Good glass/dome ports come with quality coating that can avoid this problem. Zen glass domes are pretty good for that.
-Glass domes are harder to scratch than acrylic, however when you get a bad scratch (one that shows in the photos), your only option is to get the glass replaced. Back to Zen again (I like their domes), I had my 100mm mini domes sent twice to them for glass replacement over a 10 years period, and it costed only a fraction of the total dome cost.
