    Hi @Bax737

I do like the Backscatter fibres, they are sturdy but I guess wear and tear is inevitable after years of use.

It’s a pity that you have to limit yourself in shutter speed! Ahead of my Canon R5 mark II review, here’s what I tested (NB: you need to be in “Elect 1st curtain” shutter mode to get the highest sync speed):

Nauticam manual trigger: works well up to 1/200 (black bar at 1/250), able to sustain fast bursts (at least 12 FPS), but not reconized as ‘external speedlite’ .

Nauticam TTL trigger: works well up to 1/250, is reconized as ‘external speedlite’, but can’t sustain burst speed faster than 3 FPS or so.

    UWTechnics TTL trigger:

    • in Manual mode: very similar to the Nauticam manual trigger, with the advantage of working well till 1/250th.
    • in TTL mode (haven’t tried all combinations though): works well up to 1/200 (black bar at 1/250), able to sustain fast bursts (at least 12 FPS), and is reconized as ‘external speedlite’

For clarity, when the trigger is recognised as ‘external speedlite’ that lets you toggle between front & rear curtain sync. Unfortunately, Canon won’t let you access this setting otherwise.

On face value the UWTechnics looks like it was going to be my pick… but the unit I got was exhausting all its battery life within a few hundreds shots. I believe mine was faulty (overconsumption), but the manufacturer haven’t detected a fault when servicing it.

The other 2 options are UWTechnics’ new external TTL trigger, and the Turtle/TRT trigger that you mentioned, but I have little infos on this one, the manufacturer says he only has the older variants available in Canon flavour so far.

Hope this helps you and anyone shopping for a Canon flash trigger!

    Nico
