I have yet to settle in and watch the Matty Smith marathon presentation but I’ve found that you can “technically” take a split shot with just about any lens, with increasing quality of top and bottom halfs/ smaller waterline the bigger the dome gets.
That being said the best tool is the one you have and I recall my friend winning gold in last years DPG wide angle with a split of a sawfish using a wet WWL at an awkward angle. Great results from gear thats “not supposed” to work.
