    Dawn, Thanks for your comments. You put into words some of the thoughts I had as I worked on the photo. The background is Bubble Coral, the scientific name is Plerogyra sinuosa. It is a zooxanthellate species of coral with symbiotic dinoflagellates filling most of its nutritional needs (Wikipedia). Digging deeper after reading your comments the species is a member of the phylum Cnidaria, which includes jellyfish, hydroids, sea anemones, corals and others. I see faint patterns in some of the internet photos but I think they were accentuated in my photo due to the lighting, camera, and composition. I believe the tiny critter is a Bubble Coral Shrimp or Vir philippinensis. I totally agree that the patterns make the picture special and was fortunate to be able to capture them.
