I think this is a great question, essentially If I have a “pace” that I need to maintain either in current, while Divemastering, or with a group of “swimmers”, Ill leave my macro lens at home and only focus on run and gun wide angle pictures. Obviously there would be exceptions for this, but I found that setting up for wide angle images allows you to still maintain group awareness and gives the the opportunity to use your buddies as elements of the photo (which will make you for friends!)
I find that when I take out my macro lens it essentially becomes a solo dive, so as such I find a nice shore entry reef and dive it solo with no time limit.
