For those of you celebrating Christmas, I hope you’ve all had a great time.
WorldShootout have published the finalists in each category (for most categories, it’s 5 images), and for those, we can finally see the pictures (only author names were revealed for semi-finalists).
Please join me in congratulating those of our Members who made it to the next stage in this highly competitive contest:
Best Picture of the Year category (this category is a top 10):
- Andrea Michellutti (Traveler Mike) @travellermike: fantastic behaviour shot, and I love that you framed it like that in-camera (if memory serves, WorldShootout only allows 10% cropping), he high-contrast lighting suits it too.
Macro category:
- Andrea Michellutti (Traveler Mike): same picture as above. Curious if you entered it in both categories, or did the organiser pulled it into the “Best picture of the year” (in past editions, you couldn’t choose to enter that category, only be picked for it, but it changed last year)
Wide-Angle category:
- Anita Verde @Neat: fantastic shot of playful sealion pups Anita! I am guessing this is in the Sea of Cortez / Mexico? I think this could be a worthy winner, but my friend Luc has striking amphibian photos in this category too. Hard to know how the jury will decide (or likely, has already decided) between an mammals behaviour shot and pretty amphibian portraits. Luc’s shots have more rarity in terms of subject matter, but he’s been so successful over years with similar photos, that it might downplay his chances. Let’s see…
Environmental category:
- Andrea Michellutti (Traveler Mike) you made it in this top 5 too! So did our common friend Vanessa Mignon. Though I’m crossing fingers for you guys, I am guessing Eduardo Acevedo’s shots will win, as they speak to the issue of floating/travelling plastic garbage. Let’s see.
Fingers crossed Andrea and Anita!!
