People love these images that show our subjects as “a little more human” and in this case you made a great choice with the slight downward angle/ double eye contact showing us the best parts of the fish, including some of the burrs on its back a true head on would have missed. The symmetry was another good choice. I concur with the other advise about slight darking of the background and some extra + clarity on the fins, which I see you already fixed on the second image!
In your second image I notice a little exposure bleed on the top of the fish with a halo of light background around the top, if you zoom in and tidy up the mask borders a little more, it will be difficult for most to clock the exposure change.
