Just complementing the good feedback from others, I do like the crop you have, it feels well balanced as-is.
Your v2 nicely tames down the distracting hot spot, and wouldn’t be too noticeable for someone who hasn’t seen v1.
You might try and turn it black, but keeping the original shape (rather than the obvious straight line from v3), which could still be plausible visually (you could have angled your strobe not to reach the foreground).
