I wanted to provide a follow up on this discussion. Thanks for the referral to Matt K’s video and comments regarding when denoise/sharpening is necessary and when it is not. I did try the suggestion to speed up LRC denoise, but it didn’t have much effect for me. I decided to purchase Topaz Photo AI and give it a try. I’ve only tried it on RAW photos that I saved as ‘almost good enough’ but hadn’t edited. I exported the photos in RAW from LRC to Topaz. I only used the Denoise and Sharpen functions in Topaz, then exported the photo as a dng file and completed the edit in LRC. The Topaz application is much faster on my computer than the Adobe denoise and I’m pleased with the quality of both the Denoise and Sharpen using the Topaz autopilot. Overall, I’m pleased with the additional capabilities offered by Topaz Photo AI and have deferred plans to replace my laptop.
