Thanks so much, @NicolasREMY . I think there might have been 66 images in the underwater shortlist? Some of these have already been awarded in previous competitions which was no ruled out by the rules.
A friend and I were recently commenting that photo award subjects often seem to trend for a couple of years. In the last few years, there have been so many octopuses with eggs! Mating frogs also seem wildly popular!
Your comment about looking for images similar to your own amongst shortlisted galleries is timely – over the last week I saw an image almost identical to one I’d given up entering into competitions do very well for someone else.
I’ve also seen some photographers virtually replicate images by some of the biggest names and go on to win huge prizes with their versions.
I guess all we can all so is keep shooting and keep entering and keep inspiring each other!
