Hi
I was an underwater photographer first and then learnt Lightroom as a necessity to improve my images when I realised that it is ‘expected’ that you do use editing software. I do try and get the best shot in camera but as I sit here trying to select photos for the Worldshoot out and finding the 15% crop very restrictive although it is helping the selection process somewhat. I was disappointed in one of the results from UPY where the entry was seemed to be awarded for photoshop skills. I think the most important thing is for the rules to be clearly laid out with no room for ambiguity and for the judges to abide by the rules. I have seen evidence on more than one occasion where this hasn’t happened.
On the subject of baiting- doesn’t that surmount to the same as manipulation for smaller creatures as you interfering with the subject?
I live close to Oslob where they feed whale sharks and create an aggregation – I haven’t and never will visit, if we knew what we were going to see every time we went to dive wouldn’t it remove some of our enjoyment.
