I must say it feels great… I had been sending images to the competition nearly every year since 2016, and whilst I had a growing number of finalist photos every year, I wasn’t confident I would ever get awarded (only 3% of finalist photos end up winning an award).
Needless to say, when I received the soberly titled “Competition Update” email back in March, I expected to read again “I wish I had better news…” only this time I had good news and a request to keep it silent for 6 months!
The celebrations during the awards week are really worth attending, I am glad I could bundle these with some family visits in Europe, and I’d definitely recommend prioritising it if you do end up being a #WPY61 winner 🙂
