Ciao Pink tank!
First you’ve to understand which kind of Lithium batteries we’re talking about (yes, there are different kinds).
Second you’ve to understand for “how long” we need to store them. As a standard we can consider “long time storage” something more than a week.
Third… always remember when traveling that each place (State) and each airline company have their own policies on lithium batteries in terms of:
1) the total amount of Wh in total (they don’t care about the number of batteries, instead the total Watt per Hour)… Usually this number is 100Wh, which means with a diving equipment you won’t reach that measure unless you’re travelling with a scooter 😉
2) where to place them, for sure in a lipo bag, and for most of the airlines you must take them with you on board and no checking in!
For LiPo or Li-Ion
Long time storage:
You need to chage/discharge your cells and 3.8v voltage, which is the 1/3 of the total battery capacity. This assure the battery safety and the durability.
Then as a best practice put the batteries inside an explosion and fireproof bag. (you can find the measure you need on amazon). Store batteries in a dry and well-ventilated place at room temperature or slighty lower and, close to an ABC or CO2 fire exinguisher.
I suggest also to buy a charger that has the capability to charge/discharge the battery to 3.8v if you need a very very long storage (Ex. two months)
Short time storage
Just put the batteries in a Lithium batterie bag.
When on a Liveboard I usually use this one bought on Amazon, again you can just find the size you need!
