And for anyone who gives this a read, the firmware update actually did not solve it. The problem came back and continued to plague above and below water shooting.

The issue was ultimately determined to be a malfunction with the flash trigger inside the housing, which of course nauticam will replace for me by sending me a new flash trigger.
