Good observation on the space above the coral, and also the highlights on the left. I need to be more attentive to strobe positioning in the moment. I think I’m sometimes too focused on getting the subject while it’s in a good pose, and neglect to address some of the technical aspects.
I’m usually somewhat reluctant to edit out too much backscatter from photos. I know it looks cleaner, but sometimes I like the realism. Although in this case the more distracting blobs are out of focus fish, not backscatter 🙂 It does make it cleaner though.
The highlights on the left aren’t blown, but for my original edit I just adjusted levels for the whole image. Here is another edit with the burnt highlights selectively darkened, and Lightroom AI blotch removal from the background. The selective darkening of the burnt highlights also allowed me to bring a bit more brightness into the rest of the image
