Hi Ray,
I like the colour palette, revealed by soft lighting, and there is great eye contact of the fish. It’s overall a very pretty image, nice angle, well worth showing around.
However, I don’t think this would work so well in competitions, couple of reasons:
- I feel it lacks a bit of ‘wow’ factor (the fish doesn’t jump out of the screen – visually), which is often the case with camouflaged subjects, so if you picture a jury culling quickly through photos, they might not spend enough time to ‘read’ this one.
- While I personally like these vibrant colours, I suspect you’ve pushed the saturation/vibrance/de-haze sliders, which si something juries tend to look down on.
- The stalk of one of the soft corals, near the critter’s left eye breaks a bit the harmony of the negative space. I don’t think there’s anything that could have been done against that though.
