Hi Richard, I’d like to say what a wonderful subject and great job with the exposure. I’d definitely agree with Nicolas suggestions but want to add a bit more onto this.
First of get low for sure and getting low will make the colours pop even more and may in fact make the white substrate less distracting especially with a lower depth of filed, try getting face on for some more charismatic shots and connection with the viewer, especially if the subject has eye dots!
Another technique you can try would be trying some super macro and making a more abstract image but showcasing the wonderful colours and patterns of the subject and filling the frame. This works really well and isn’t done enough.
For me these techniques work best with small subjects on bright sand but I would say the high key shallow depth of field shots from a low perspective will help your subject jump out from the sand and you can still retain some of the habitat to give context.
