10 Rules to Achieve a Good Underwater Composition

Let’s now go through the 10 composition rules for underwater photography, here they are:

  • The rule of thirds
  • Use diagonals
  • Leave space around the subject
  • Do not cut subjects
  • Subject direction
  • Use symmetry
  • Create depth
  • Patterns & texture
  • Create a frame within the frame
  • Leading lines (straight or curved)

The first few rules are the easiest to apply underwater, whereas those towards the end are harder to put in place. For that very reason, they also have a stronger potential to make your photo stand-out 😉
